AIRCRAFT HISTORY

Built 1935 as a Royal Air Force advanced training aeroplane, powered by one Rolls Royce Kestrel X of 560 horse power.

K 4972 was built by Armstrong Whitworths under contract from Hawker's and first used operationally by No. 2 Flying Training School at Digby. It was placed in store in 1938 and spent a number of years as a training airframe, before being presented to No. 1456 Air Training Squadron. It was later put in store in a barn near Carlisle, and was discovered in excellent condition by the Solway Aviation Group and presented to the National Aeroplane Collection for display. It was refurbished by No. 15 MU at St. Athan in 1968, and moved to Hendon in 1972, where it forms part of the centerpiece of the Sir Sidney Camm Memorial Hall. Hooton AirCraft's Hart Trainer model was specially prepared for the RAF Museum at Hendon where it is on display and on sale at their museum shop.

A motorisation kit for the model is available.
