Exported to France 26/5/54, the aircraft was registered F-BHAT; 10/54 with Aero Club du Jura, Dole; by 1/57; SFATAT Dole, 5/62; Aero Club les Ailes Cognacaises,1/67, Aero Club du Finistere, Brest, 4/68. Budge,18/10/71 and exhibited in the Southend Aviation Museum. The aircraft was put into open storage at Blackbushe in 1/73 before returning to Southend by road, 27/3/74, and the registration was cancelled as withdrawn from use,5/11/81. Sold to lan Huddleston and registered G-IESH (I.E.S. Huddleston) 4/6/82, the aircraft was rebuilt to airworthy condition by Tony Sutton at Nayland, Essex. The engine failed just after take off from Nayland aerodrome, near Colchester,10/1/88, and at about 100 feet, the pilot was faced with magneto and fuel checks and avoidance of a building immediately ahead. In banking to the right the aircraft fell into a spin and completed a half turn before striking the ground, demolishing the front fuselage and undercarriage, and damaging all four wings. The cause of the accident was assessed as a probable combination of Mogas operation, icing conditions, and an engine which had not been run during the winter months. During rebuilding at Nayland, the personalised registration was cancelled and G-ANPE was restored to lan Huddleston,15/2/89.
The Hooton AirCraft Model of G-ANPE depicts the aeroplane as it was when stationed with No.19 Reserve Flying School at Hooton Park during 1952-53, carrying the all-silver with yellow training bands standard RAF training colour scheme of the period. l am indebted to members of 610 Sqdrn Association, whose recollection of the aeroplane at Hooton during the fifties led to its . choice for inclusion in the Hooton AirCraft range of Tiger Moths.
