Official records indicate that the aircraft was delivered from the Morris Motors Co., Cowley factory across the hedge to de Havilland at Witney, 31/3/44, apparently for 'modifications', but the aircraft is known to have been test flown under de Havilland care two days earlier. Nominal ownership passed to the Chief of Research and Development, 30/8/45, although the aircraft had been extensively flown by DH pilots throughout 1944, doing a mixture of local communications and weather observation flights, which routine was to continue until at least 11/45. PG 624 was sold to the de Havilland Aircraft Company Limited and registered G-AHIZ on 23/4/46, with C of A No.7593 issued 1/5/46, Painted yellow and silver, the aircraft was posted to Panshanger to join the fleet of the London Aeroplane Club, de Havilland employees own flying club. PG 624 was struck off military charge on 21/6/47 and registered G-AHIZ in the London Club's name on 22/l/48. De Havilland employees were permitted to fly-the Club' s Tiger Moths at £1 per hour all inclusive 'wet', a rate maintained, in part, due to the generosity of the company, and otherwise to maintenance and repairs carried out in-house by Apprentices and Technical School Students as part of their training.
G-AHIZ was sold to W.F.A. "Bill" Ison and Partners, No.22 Flying Croup during 3/56, and was collected from Panshanger at an agreed price of £325. The aircraft was pressed into service alongside Tiger Moth G-ANLG (86645), and both were used for initial training. After G-ANLG ended her days atop a hangar roof at Luton Airport (11/5/58)1 G-AHIZ was joined by G-AOEI (c/no 82196) during 7/58. G-AHIZ underwent a nominal ownership change to D. Jackson and W.F.A.lson, Cambridge Private Flying Group, 19/11/59. Taxying out at Cambridge on 218164, HIZ impacted onto a runway light, and with tail lifted, was blown.over, damaging propeller, rudder, undercarriage and two wings. Some years later, 2/1/76, at Pumpisford airstrip, Cambridge, a similar incident occurred when the aircraft was overtaken by strong wind gusts whilst taxying and blown onto its nose, again damaging the rudder and tailplane and engine cowlings. As a result of further ownership changes, G-AHIZ was registered to C.F.G. Flying Club Ltd. during 8/76, and was an entry in the Famous Grouse DH Moth Rally from Hatfield to Strathallen on 6/79, achieving 41st place! During circuit flying at Gt. Eversden, Cambridge, 5/10/79, 'HIZ crossed the boundary hedge at 40ft, in a sideslip, preparing for a touch and go. A sudden loss of height caused the aircraft to touch down heavily on all three points, veer to starboard, and run through a pile of hedge trimmings into a harrowed field. The pilot maintained full power.and the aircraft became airborne, landing back at Cambridge where the starboard axle was discovered to be bent and the rear spar in the starboard lower wing had suffered a compression shake. The aircraft was extensively rebuilt and is now maintained in pristine condition at Teversham Airport, Cambridge, sporting London Aeroplane Club colours of yellow and silver, where she continues to train and convert a steady stream of pilots to the joys of biplane flight.
